The Department of Telecommunications has been working on the Central Equipment Identification Register (CEIR) since 2017. It is a database of IMEI (International Mobile Device Identification). How this CEIR scheme portal will work in case of mobile phone theft or lost: –

  • First of all, the person who has a mobile phone list, will have to register an FIR in the nearest police station.
  • The person must then notify the DoT through a helpline number 14422.
  • After the police complaint, DoT will blacklist the IMEI number. This will block the handset to access any mobile network in future.
