NTSE Scholarship 2021
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NTSE) gives scholarships to 1,000 deserving deserving candidates every year. NTSE has divided this scholarship category in percentage for all students i.e. 7.5% scholarship is reserved for SC candidates, 15% scholarship out of 1000 scholarship is fixed for SC claimants, 3% scholarship eligible Physical disabilities will be given to candidates and all others reserved for un-reserved for general category students.

Eligibility criteria for the scholarship
- The candidate should be a citizen of India.
- Students should have passed 10th class with minimum 60% marks from recognized board or equivalent.
Category wise reserved scholarship
- 5% for SC categories.
- 7.5% for ST candidates.
- 3% for physically challenged students.
Total Scholarships – A total of 1000 scholarships will be awarded to all eligible students.

Selection Motif-
In the first phase, the candidate will be selected through written test by the states / UTS.
In the second phase NCERT will take the test of those students who will pass in the first phase.
Exam pattern
- Mental Ability Test (MAT)
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
- There will be multiple choice type questions in the exam.
- Students will get 1 mark for each correct answer in Stage-I paper.
- There will be no negative marking in the first stage.
- MTSE has fixed 1/3 negative marking in the second step on each wrong answer.

- Once filled application form, candidates have to take a print out of this copy.
- This scholarship print out copy should be verified from the Principal candidates of the respective school / college.

Q1. What is this plan about?
A1. The objective of this scheme is to identify talented students and to provide and nurture scholarships for their further studies.
Q2. How old is this plan?
A 2. This scheme is almost as old as NCERT. In 1963, the scheme was introduced as the National Science Talent Search Scheme.
Q3. How long will successful candidates get scholarship?
A3. Awards studying in Science, Social Sciences, Humanities, Language, Commerce, Professional Studies and Fine Arts are eligible to receive scholarships up to Ph.D. Level, while those who are eligible to receive awards studying professional courses in Medicine Engineering Technology Management and Law receive scholarships up to the second degree level.

Q6. Who conducts the first level examination?
A6. NTSE Phase 1 is administered by states and union territories. The purpose of this phase 1 exam is to shortlist the students for the NTSE Stage 2 exam, which is conducted by NCERT.

A12. Yes, based on national norms of 15 per cent and 7.5 per cent, there is a provision for reservation for SC and ST candidates respectively, who get minimum qualifying marks under these categories, they are eligible for scholarship.

Question 14. Can my son / daughter studying in India take the NTSE Stage 2 exam directly?
A14. No, in order to appear for the NTSE Stage 2 examination, the name of the candidate must be recommended by the State / UT to which he / she belongs.
Question 15. Who can appear in this exam?
A15. All students studying in class X in any recognized school, including Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sainik School, and Military School, will be eligible to appear in the state level examination from the states in which the schools are located.
Question 16. Are there any eligibility conditions for appearing in the screening test like qualifying percentage of marks in the annual examination last year?
A16. The eligibility criteria for NTSE Phase 1 vary state. State / UT can place any eligibility condition for appearing in Phase I examination.
Terms and condition about NTSE scholarship
The following are rules and regulations regarding NTSE scholarship:
- If there are students studying in academic courses like Science, Social Sciences, Humanities, Language, Commerce, Vocational, Fine Arts, they are eligible to get NTSE scholarship up to Ph.D. Baccalaureate education where if students study in professional courses like engineering, medicine and management etc., then they are eligible for NTSE scholarship up to second degree level.
- Any student receiving any other scholarship for a period of more than six months on a regular monthly basis will be disqualified to receive the NTSE scholarship. In no case will it be revived once the scholarship has been waived. All students must also make an undertaking each year that they are not receiving scholarships or awards from any other institutions. Also any student who is not employed is eligible for the payment of scholarship and accordingly, every student has to provide a certificate whether he / she is employed or not.
- No scholarship will be available abroad for any course.
- In view of the online payment of scholarship for the award, the prescribed time period has been reduced from 24 months to 12 months. Hence the scholarship will start from 1st April to 31st March of academic session 2015-2016. This will be paid for a maximum period of 12 months or course duration whichever is the minimum. The claim bill is to be submitted separately before 31 December every year for each class / year, but no later than 31st. After that the scholarship will be closed once for all.
- If a student has not resubmitted his claim bill within 12 months after receiving it from the NCERT office in online mode. The scholarship of such a candidate will be closed once for all.
- If a student leaves the course of study within one month of admission. NTSE scholarships are not awarded to students.
