How to Find Spam Backlinks in Website

Here I will use three tools to find bad backlinks:

  • SEMrush
  • Google Search Console Tool
  • Moz Explorer

1. Using SEMrush to Remove Bad Backlinks

  • Firstly, go to the SEMrush Backlink Audit Page
  • Add the URL of your site. It will audit the backlinks on your site.
  • Next, click on “Audit”.

It will show Toxic backlinks with score (60-100 – Toxic, 45-59 – Potentially Toxic). Select the Toxic backlinks from the list that you want to remove.

  • After that click on Delete >> To Disavow.
  • Now go to Disavow tab and click on Export to TXT.
  • Your disavow file will be downloaded

2. Using the Google Search Console Tool

First, log in to the Google Search Console tool, then click on Link >> Top linking sites >> More. Here you will see sites that have linked to your site and are giving you backlinks. You can see in below screenshot.

This is a manual process and will take you a lot of time.

Click on the Download button to download this list.  Now you have to check it yourself whether it contains any spam link or not. If you find spam, unrelated or unnatural links on this list, write them down in your notepad.

3. Using Moz Explorer

  • First, go to the Moz Link Explorer site and sign up.
  • Enter the URL of the site and click on the search icon.
  • Now click on Spam Score in the left side.

Now you will be able to see the list of Spam backlinks. If you have a free account it will only show you a few links. You will need to upgrade it to see all the links.

  • Now, click on Export CSV to download the result.

Now we have a list of bad backlinks, so let’s start removing them…

Remove Bad Backlinks from Website Using Google Disavow Tool

A few years back, there was no easy way to control low quality backlinks. But thankfully, Google launched Disavow Tool which allows webmasters to create and submit a text file of spam links/toxics links. Google will not value the domain links you report using the Disavow tool.

To remove spam backlinks from your site, first of all, create a text file and type in the low quality backlinks that you want to remove from your site. what we already have

  • Go to Google Disavow tool page and select your domain then click on Disavow Links.
  • In the next page again click on Disavow Links.
  • Here just upload the text file of your spam link and click on the submit button.
  • After uploading the file, you have to wait 1-2 weeks. Google will crawl those pages again.
