600 Words – Essay on Women Safety in India in Very Easy Words for Students and Kids
The condition of women in India has always been a matter of grave concern. For the past several centuries, women of India were not given equal status and opportunities as compared to their male counterparts. The patriarchal nature of Indian society, though respectful to women because they are our mothers and sisters, has greatly affected the independence as well as the safety of women.
One of the main causes of violence against women is a mentality that considers women to be the lowest of men and only limits the importance of housekeeping, raising children and pleasing their husbands and serving other family members.
Even in today’s time of modernization of society, many working women are still subjected to the dual responsibility of a housewife and a working woman under heavy pressure on the shoulder with little or no help from their husbands.
This is the same mentality that some generations ago thought of women as husbands of sexual pleasure and as servants of husbands, considered “God”, which literally translates to “Supreme God” .
The times have changed but the mindset is still prevalent in the minds of many narrow minded Indians.
In the recent incident, a 23-year-old paramedical student was gang-raped by 6 people inside a moving bus near a posh Delhi area and his male friend was beaten with an iron rod and naked after attacking Has been thrown away.
Although this was the most disgusting case of cruelty, it is ironic to note that such incidents are not really rare in our country. There are many cases where there are everyday women (from infants to older women, upper middle class women in metros to dalit women in villages to dalit women…… the list can be endless) of horrible sex by those lustful men Most cases are subject to harassment, known to victims. In India, victims or individuals convicted of sexual offenses cannot be normalized. Land; They come from all sections of society and every part of India and belong to all age groups.
It is necessary to enact stringent laws to ensure that the guilty are punished in such cases, which they are eligible and do not run freely due to weak provisions or shortcomings of the existing laws. But stressing that stricter laws would be able to curtail male sex in India would not be appropriate.
Unlike sexual assault cases reported in police stations, there is a large proportion of women in India who are subjected to rape and other forms of sexual harassment on a daily basis and yet their cases go unnoticed.
These women are unfortunate wives who have to have intercourse with their husbands even if they want to (not non-sympathetic sex but anything other than rape). When it comes to sex, they don’t really have any say in front of their husband, they have to follow their husband’s needs and demands.
Another category of women who are obliged to engage in sexual activities against their wishes, are the hundreds of sex workers in India who come every day to many men and are even tortured by many of their clients. They are forced to do so because their customers say they have no other means of feeding themselves and their children than selling their bodies to the sexually-starved people of India.
If we think about all these women and then collectively look at the scenario of sexual offenses against women, it can be easily seen that stringent laws alone cannot do much. What really needs to be done is to change the moral level of the minds of the general public through education and awareness.
Strong and stringent laws are certainly necessary as existing laws have increasingly proved incompetent to ensure justice and appropriate punishment to the offender. But the real need of the moment is a radical change in the minds and consciences of Indian men so that they stop viewing women as objects of sexual pleasure.
