Essay on Independent India ‘s Fascination in English for Students in Very Easy Worlds
Fascination for English Language
India is a great country. People of many languages, castes and creeds reside here. Indian culture is very vast. It has gladly adopted many variations. The country has seen many ups and downs since ancient times.
Our country has been under foreign hegemony for hundreds of years, due to which people of different cultures and sects have come in contact with it from time to time. Similarly, people who speak different languages also came here and settled and left their influence.
Of these, the influence of Urdu and English language was more permanent. After five decades of independence, the dominance of English in India is increasing so rapidly that in the next few years, the use of English is expected to be more than the national language Hindi.
The British ruled India for more than 200 years before independence. The British came to India solely for the purpose of trade. Till the end he never attempted to assimilate India. He always looked at India from the point of view of business importance. Never talked about sustainable development of India. So whatever he did in these 200 plus years, he always did it for his business interest only.
During his time, he also propagated his mother tongue English for the recruitment of ‘clerk’ or ‘babu’ and other facilities in his organization. Thus began the expansion of the English language from the British rule itself. Apart from this, English also developed when people in Hindustan came in contact with them. Some patriots and litterateurs also studied English language to know and understand foreign culture.
In our constitution, Hindi is respected in the national language, which is mainly spoken by most people in northern India. But it is very unfortunate that despite being the national language, there are many people in many areas of southern India who still do not understand Hindi. For them, their regional language is predominant.
Even today, Hindi has not been given the form of compulsory language in those areas. Apart from this, the use of Hindi language in offices etc. is definitely said but English language is used for most of the work. The limited use of Hindi language makes it easier for the plurality of English.
People find it easier and respectable to work in English. In a nation like India, where the first citizen of our country, our honorable President, also gives his speech in English, under these circumstances, the younger generation’s affection for English is natural.
Apart from this, English language is gradually becoming compulsory in schools, colleges and other government and private educational institutions. Books of the best and famous writers for higher education are also available in English language only. Under these circumstances, complete knowledge of the subject without English knowledge becomes difficult.
English is given a plurality in various jobs in India and abroad. People who are ignorant of English are looked down upon in many places. English has become the status symbol of status in society, especially among the youth. The fascination of Western culture in the youth always keeps them motivated to assimilate English.
Therefore, English is slowly going home in the Indian public, especially among the youth. Presently, it has got mixed in such a way that it is a difficult task if not impossible to uproot it. The nature of our Indian culture is very ancient and vast. For thousands of years it has been immobile and unshakable. According to the time, many new ideologies have been embedded in it from time to time.
Every civilization and culture has its own good. If we assimilate the goodness of English language and English culture, then there is no harm in it, but it is also very important to maintain our existence.
In contrast to this, it has been happening today that those who openly advocate Hindi also consider themselves proud by enrolling their children in English-medium schools. Due to such double conduct, the national language of India has become alien in its own home.
The national language of India is Hindi, so it is the duty of all Indians not to consider Hindi inferior in front of the English language and their feeling towards Hindi should be as follows:
”मानस–भवन में आर्य जन जिसकी उतारें आरती भगवान गूँजे विश्व में प्यारी हमारी भारती हो भद्रभावोद्-भाविनी वह भारती हे भगवते ! सीतापते ! सीतापते ! गीतापते ! गीतापते !”
