Greetings to the venerable Principal, all the teachers, guest guests and my dear classmates. Today I want to talk to you about Jawaharlal Nehru, the most beloved leader of India’s great men and children. Jawaharlal Nehru has been a very important contributor to India’s independence. He was born on 14 November 1889 in Allahabad to a high class family. His father’s name was Motilal Nehru, who was also a well-known lawyer and a good politician. His mother’s name was Swaroop Devi Nehru.
Nehru did his graduation from Trinity College, Cambridges. He also trained barristers, but then he became interested in national politics and left the practice in the middle. Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of independent India and ruled him throughout his life and worked for the benefit of the people. Jawaharlal Nehru loved children very much and always kept roses in his pocket. The children used to call him uncle Nehru in love. Jawaharlal Nehru himself started the Five Year Plan in 1951 due to the love of children so much that Nehru’s birthday was celebrated as Children’s Day.
Nehru was an educated man and he also indirectly promoted education. He was a very successful and honest politician. He died in 1964 and the country lost a great man. Respected Headmaster, Teacher and my dear friends,
Today we have gathered here to celebrate the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He was affectionately called by all the children as Chacha Nehru. He loved children very much so he decided to celebrate his birthday as a children’s day. Uncle Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in Allahabad. His father was Motilal Nehru, a great lawyer and mother Swaroop Rani in those days. Since his childhood, he was a very intelligent boy in all aspects. After completing his schooling in Allahabad, he went to England to pursue higher studies in law. Upon completion of his studies, he returned to India in 1912 as a lawyer in the profession. Various movements were launched by various freedom fighters in India against the British people.
Hence, Nehru also joined the Indian National Congress in 1920. It was Mahatma Gandhi’s period that led to the entire freedom struggle. Nehru is also very much associated with the policies of Mahatma Gandhi which is ‘peace and non-violence’. Earlier, the Nehru family was associated with Western culture but after getting too close with Gandhi, he abandoned Western culture and adopted the Indian culture of wearing Khadi. He actively participated in all the freedom movement started by Mahatma Gandhi.
This marked a major change in the freedom struggle. Gradually and slowly people started joining the struggle, eventually it is possible to strengthen a large crowd in the movement like the Anomalous Movement in 1920, the Dandi March in 1930, the Quite India Movement in 1942 and many other movements. He went to jail many times but at all times his morale was boosted by the great support of the people of India. India finally got its independence on August 15, 1947. Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister of India in 1951.
