The Indian Science, Technology and Engineering Facilities Map portal is functional on istem.gov.in. The I-STEM portal has been launched by PM Narendra Modi on 3 January 2020 and is dedicated to the nation. The ISTEM One Nation One Research Portal includes research and development facilities on the map. People can register the I-STEM portal online, check the equipment list, download the ISTEM app from the Google Play Store (Android users) and the App Store (Apple I-phone users). More than 17,000 devices located in about 427 institutions across India are listed on the I-STEM portal.
I-STEM Linking Researchers and Resources
The I-STEM portal is specifically designed to serve as a gateway for users / researchers to explore specific types of facilities for their R&D work in India. www.istem.gov.in will also enable users to identify whether the facility is located closest to them or is available as soon as possible. The IP protected I-STEM portal is created and managed by the Nano Science Center of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The portal will be launched on the inauguration day of the 107th edition of the Indian Agricultural Congress University University (USAB) in Bengaluru.
Process of online registration on I-STEM portal – istem.gov.in
The ISTEM portal will connect researchers and resources. Researchers can find necessary facilities for their R&D work through the map. Once researchers have found the desired facility through the I-STEM portal, they can make an online reservation to use it by paying through a secure payment gateway. Enables sharing of R&D features in a transparent manner. Hold a database of all R&D facilities installed in institutions across the country. The complete procedure to register on the I-STEM portal for the scientific community is given below: –
- Visit the official I-STEM portal at istem.gov.in
- At the homepage, click at the “Sign-In / Register” link or directly click this link
- Here researcher / user register as well as institution / resources registration links are present on you screen
- After this click at the “Researcher / User Registration” link to open the ISTEM registration form for researchers:-

ISTEM One Nation One Research Portal
The I-STEM portal is conceptualized by the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India as a national program. All government-funded academic institutions, national research laboratories and aided affiliated institutions with R&D facilities (in science, technology, engineering, medicine and agriculture) will be required to list them on the I-STEM portal. In addition, the ISTEM portal will also serve to provide a living list of R&D facilities in academia, national laboratories and industry, whether built with public and private investment.
Not only public and private educational institutions, but industries will also be able to share their R&D lab equipment as well as scientific products / equipment accessories. In addition, industries will also be able to use the facilities required for their R&D through I-STEM. The I-STEM One Nation One research portal will be able to advance its innovative ideas and leverage public and private investment with successful products and services.
