The Government of Rajasthan has announced to launch the Neonatal Protection Scheme 2020 for infants. The Department of Health will soon bring a policy for newborns born to infants with low birth weight, malnutrition and premature births. The main objective of the Neonatal Protection Scheme is to reduce infant mortality (IMR) and care for newborns. Apart from this, Kangaroo Mother Care initiative will also be launched in the state.

Rajasthan Navjat Suraksha Yojana
In Rajasthan, the infant mortality rate is 35 deaths per 1000 live births. According to the National Family, the infant mortality rate in Rajasthan is 41 deaths per 1000 live births in the health survey year 2015-16. With a view to reducing infant mortality, the Rajasthan government has launched a “newborn safety scheme”. The scheme was launched by Health Minister Rahul Sharma, Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare, Government of Rajasthan on 9 February 2020 while attending a conference of Kangaroo Mother Care at JK Lone Hospital, Jaipur.

Rajasthan Navjat Suraksha Yojana 2020 – Kangaroo Mother Care
The Nirogi Rajasthan campaign to reduce IMR and maternal mortality (MMR) in the state has already been started.
The new neonatal safety plan 2020 will help bring down infant mortality rate further. The scheme aims to improve health facilities for newborns. The Government of Health Department of Rajasthan has decided to include Kangaroo Mother Care in the Narogi Rajasthan Scheme of the State Government. Kangaroo mother care training programs will be organized in Rajasthan to improve the health facilities and prevent newborn deaths.

This technology is still underlined and if used properly, this initiative could save many lives. The Health Department has been using this technique at JK Lone Hospital for the past few years and now doctors and nurses have been trained in Rajasthan.
