Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh announced the introduction of a free police helpline number for women to leave their homes safely. Now all the women trapped outside between 9 am and 6 pm can call for free police assistance to reach home. The state wide facility will be available on toll 100, 112, 181 toll free numbers under the Free Police Assistance Scheme. On dialing these helpline numbers, the female caller will immediately connect to the Police Control Room (PCR).
CM Amarinder Singh directed Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta to successfully implement the Punjab Free Police Assistance Scheme. The issue of women’s safety came to light recently after the Priyanka Reddy case, where the assailants raped and burnt her alive.
To prevent vandalism against women, this type of police helpline number is needed to ensure that women are safely delivered to their homes.
Punjab Free Police Assistance for Women to Leave Home (Dial 100,112,181)
Under this Punjab Free Police Assistance Scheme, women will be provided with pick-up and drop facilities to ensure their safety. Now all women who do not have access to a safe vehicle including a taxi or 3 wheeler can dial 100, 112 or 181 toll free numbers. By dialing these Punjab Police helpline numbers, PCR will directly connect with the women.
To ensure a sense of security to the woman, at least 1 female police officer will accompany her during transport. Dedicated PCR vehicles will be made available in the state as well as Mohali, Bhatinda, Patiala and other major cities for successful implementation of Punjab Free Police Assistance Scheme 2019.
The DSP / ACP (crime against women) will be the nodal officer for implementing the Free Police Assistance Scheme in each district. Their official phone numbers will be available on government websites and Punjab Police website. ADGP Crime, Punjab State will be the nodal officer for free police helpline number facility for women to leave home.
