Ministry of Human Resource Development, Central Government is inviting online applications for the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship Scheme at may2020.pmff.in. Subsequently, the PMRF scheme will attract the best talent for Doctoral Studies (PhD) in reputed institutions like IIT, IISER, IISc etc. Accordingly, interested candidates can apply online for the PM Research Fellowship through the official website. The PMRF scheme was announced in the budget 2018-19.

Seeks to promote research in cutting-edge technologies and science areas. PMRF scheme has been formulated to improve the quality of research in various higher educational institutions of the country. Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme Online Application Process
The complete procedure to apply online for PMRF application form May 2020 is given below: –
- Go to official website https://may2020.pmrf.in/
- Then on the homepage, click on the “Apply Online” tab in the header.
- Click on the “Please click here Apply Online” link at the bottom of the next page.
- Later, the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship online application form 2020 will appear
- Here candidates can fill all the required details accurately and upload supporting documents along with fee payment receipt.
- Finally, candidates can click the “Submit” button to complete the PMRF application process.
- In addition, candidates can take a printout of the filled application form and keep it for any future reference.

- Recent passport size photo.
- Scanned copy of transcript / gradesheet / marksheet till the last full semester as PDF.

PM Research Fellowship Amount / PMRF Salary
The candidates will get the following amount / salary for pursuing Doctoral Studies (Ph.D.):-

In addition to this, govt. will also provide grant of Rs. 2 lakh per annum (total Rs. 10 lakh) to each fellow.
Direct entry channel for PMRF May 2020
To apply for PMRF through this direct entry channel, each candidate has to fulfill the following eligibility criteria: –
- In the preceding three years, the candidate should have either:
- Graduation or completion of final year graduation from a recognized institute / university in India with CGPA of 8.0 or above and GATE score of 650 or above in the relevant subject. If the qualifying degree is from one of the centrally funded technical institutes), or
- Qualified GATE and completed or pursuing M.Tech./MS by doing research at one of the PMRF grant institutes with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 or above, with a minimum of four courses.
- They apply and are selected in Ph.D. Program in a PMRF grant granting institution.
- The PMRF grant granting institution, which provided the student with Ph.D. The program, through a regular selection process (Interview), makes a strong recommendation for the award of the PMRF, given its merit.
The metrics on which candidates will be judged include (but are not restricted to): research demonstrations, publications, performances in international academic competitions, grades and letters of recommendation.
Lateral Entry Channel for PMRF Scheme May 2020
To apply for PMRF through this lateral entry channel, the candidate has to fulfill all the following criteria: –
- Candidate should pursue Ph.D. In one of the PMRF grant granting institutions. In addition, he must have completed a maximum of 12 months in the PhD program if he has joined the program with a master’s degree; And the PhD program must be completed in a maximum of 24 months if he / she has joined the PhD program with a bachelor’s degree. He / she must complete at least four courses in a PhD program of 8.5 or above with CGPA / CPI.
- The PMRF grant institute, in which the student is enrolled, makes a strong recommendation for the candidate and uploads the relevant information on the PMRF web-portal, as per his / her qualification clearly displayed during the first 12-24 months (as relevant In)) of the program;
- The metrics on which candidates will be judged include (but are not restricted to) a strong research proposal, publication record and grades. Proper weightage should be given for publication in reputed journals / conferences.

PMRF application fee 2020
Candidates will have to pay Rs. 1000 rupees as PMRF application fee through online mode to State Bank of India (SBI). Candidates can pay their fees on the SBI Collect page. Here the candidates have to accept the “Terms and Conditions” and then select the payment category as PMRF application fee 2020 and then make the required payment.
After successful payment, the candidates can download the PDF file of the e-receipt along with the SBI Collect Reference Number. Apart from this, candidates have to upload this SBI Collect E-Receipt PDF file and enter SBI Collect Reference Number to complete the application process.
To promote research in educational institutions across the country, the Ministry of Human Resource Development is creating a dedicated boost research and innovation division. The Division will be headed by a Director who will coordinate the research work of various institutions under the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
