Odisha CM Starts District Palliative Care Programme for Capital Hospitals & RGH Rourkela

Government of Odisha The District Headquarters initiates District Palliative Care programs for hospitals such as Rajdhani Hospital and RGH Rourkela, providing services to DHH with infrastructure for improvement so that sick people can be served.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has started the District Palliative Care Program to be available in district level hospitals. Facilities will be provided at Rajdhani hospitals and district level health institutions including RGH Rourkela to realize the commitment of a healthy and prosperous state. All District Headquarters Hospitals (DHHs) will be developed with appropriate infrastructure for the program.

Patients and their families are given palliative care to improve their quality of life to cope with life-threatening problems. In this program all patients will get both in-patient and out-patient services.

In another humanitarian initiative, Government of Odisha. Will start home-based palliative care in Nabarangpur in 2 months, which will be expanded to all districts. Services will also be available for the sick people suffering from chronic kidney disease, stroke, cardio vascular disease etc.

Important features and salient features of the District Palliative Care Program are as follows: –

  • DHH to be developed for palliative care
  • To provide facility based palliative care services in each district, 6 bed palliative care units will be set up at each DHH.
  • 10 districts have already received Rs. 10.25 lakhs for infrastructure development.
  • State government. Already, 39 medical officers and 42 staff nurses have been trained in medical care.

These trained individuals will provide services at 30 DHH, RGH Rourkela and centers at Rajdhani Hospital Bhubaneswar.

In-patient and out-patient service in Odisha

The details of inpatient and outpatient services in Odisha are as follows: –

  • In-Patient Services – These services include free specialist counseling, free medicines, consumables, free physiotherapy, spiritual healing, emergency care services, nutritional support, patient follow-up and training to the caregiver.
  • Out-Patient Services – These services include regular counseling by trained medical staff, training caregivers, free medicines and consumables, physiotherapy services, counseling for the patient and family, referral to high health facilities.

Induction and refresher training of medical officers and staff nurses and counselors will be taken regularly to increase staff proficiency.
