The Election Commission has announced the election dates for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly 2019, to be held in a phase on October 21, with the voting body gearing up to conduct a democratic electoral exercise. Of the 288 seats in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, 29 are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 25 for Scheduled Tribes. Polling for all 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra will be held on October 21 and counting of votes on October 24.
The Congress party has released the list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. The party is contesting elections with NCP Sharad Pawar. The party has nominated former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan from Karad Dakshin seat. Chavan’s name was missing in the first list, as the party wanted him to contest the by-election for Satara Lok Sabha seat, which was necessitated by the resignation of NCP MP Udayanraje Bhosale, who joined the BJP.
Congress has fielded its former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan from the seat, the list of Congress candidates. His wife Amita Sharma-Chavan is the current MLA from Bhokar. After winning the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, Amrita contested her first election in 2014. Maharashtra Congress chief Vijay alias Balasaheb Thorat will contest from Sangamner. Amit, son of former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh, has been fielded from Latur City seat, while Pranati, daughter of former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, will contest from Solapur City Central.
