Godhan Nyay Yojana 2020 Chhattisgarh launched to procure cow dung from livestock owners to make animal husbandry profitable

The Government of Chhattisgarh has launched the Godhan Nyay Yojana on 25 June 2020 to promote animal husbandry and make it commercially more profitable. The CG state became the first Indian state to purchase cow dung from animal owners. This cattle justice scheme will be to prevent open grazing by cattle and to solve the problem of stray cattle on the roads and for environmental protection. This innovative scheme will be implemented in Chhattisgarh state from the day of Hareli Utsav.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel provided the above information. Regarding the Godhan Nyay Yojana at an online press conference from his residence office. Through the new scheme, animal husbandry and cow-dung management have become more profitable for cattle owners. Implementation of this cow dung procurement scheme will create employment opportunities and generate additional income.

What is Godhan Nyay Yojana?

Under the Godhan Nyay Yojana, the Chhattisgarh government will purchase cow dung from livestock owners at a fixed purchase rate.

Who will decide the purchase rate of cow dung?

Under the Godhan Nyay Yojana, the procurement rate of dung will be decided by a 5-member sub-committee of the cabinet. This cabinet sub-committee will be chaired by Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Ravindra Chaubey within 8 days. This committee included Mr. Mohammad Akbar, Minister of Forests, Cooperative Minister Dr. Premasai Singh Tekam, Urban Administration Minister Dr. Shiv Kumar Dahria, Revenue Minister Shri Jaisingh Agrawal. The procurement rate of cow dung will be decided after consulting the suggestions received from cattle ranchers, farmers, gaushala operators and other experts.

With the implementation of the Godhan Nyaya Yojana, cattle herders will provide proper fodder and water to their cattle and keep them tied to their places. Thus, livestock will not roam here and there to graze in the field and will not be on the roads which will prevent crops as well as road accidents.

What will CG say about the cow dung purchased by the state government?

The purchased dung will be used to produce vermicompost manure. This plant can be sold through cooperative societies for fertilizer requirement of farmers as well as various plantation campaigns by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture and Urban Administration. The CG State Urban Administration will be responsible for the purchase of cow dung. The state government will also make other arrangements for marketing of additional organic fertilizer.

CG Godhan Nyay Scheme Background

In the last 1.5 years, CG State Govt. Constant efforts have been made to strengthen the rural economy through Narva, Garua, Ghurua, Bari schemes. Gaushalas are being built in villages for the protection and nutrition of animals. So far, the state government. Gaushalas have been constructed in 2200 villages and in the next 2 to 3 months, about 5,000 villages will be equipped with livelihood facilities as livelihood centers. Here, vermi compost is being made on a large scheme with the help of women self-help groups.

This Gudhan Nyay Yojana will bear long-term results and will prove beneficial for the rural economy as well as the state economy. This scheme will also help in generating employment in rural areas. The CM urged the farmers, livestock owners and intellectuals to suggest the rate of purchase of cows in the state. On the implementation of this scheme, livestock owners will provide proper fodder-water to their cattle and then tie them in place. Cowdung may be sold for additional collection.
