Short Essay on Rbindranath Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore wrote novels, short stories, songs, dramas and essays on political and personal topics. He became Asia’s First nobel laureate when he won the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature for his poetic work “Geetanjali”.
He was the son of Debendranath Tagore, a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, which was a new religious sector in nineteenth-century in Bengal. He was educated at home; and although at seventeen he was sent to England for formal schooling, he did not finish his studies there. Tagore was honoured by the ruling British Government in 1915, but within a few years he resigned the honour as a protest against British policies in India. He died on August 7, 1941.
