ESSAY ON ANNUAL DAY FUNCTION or THE PRIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

The Annual Prize Distribution Function is held every year in my school in the month of December. This function is one of the most important celebrations in the school. On this day the meritorious students who had excelled in academics, sports and cultural activities in the past one year are awarded prizes and merit by the Chief Guest. This inspires the students to show their talents one way or other.

Preparations for the celebrations begin at least a month earlier. The school building is whitewashed. Students tidy their classroom and decorate them with beautiful posters and buntings. The school auditorium is fully adorned with flowers and balloons. All the cultural programmes for the function are well planned and prepared under the guidance of the class teachers and the Vice-Principal. The Head of the Board of Directors of the School is invited as the Chief Guest and to preside over the function. Invitation cards are sent to the parents of all the students. Two photographers are called to take the photographs of all the events.

On the evening of 10th December this year my school celebrated its 30th Annual Day. The students reached the school in their beautiful dresses along with their parents. The Chief Guest arrived at 5 pm. He was at the school gate by the Principal and other members of the staff. The Prefects of the school presented him a guard of honour. He was led to the stage where a little girl of 1st standard dressed as a fairy garlanded him. Soon everyone was seated.

The programme began with a welcome song. Then followed dances, skits, mimicry, orchestral items and kawallis students of each class presented an interesting variety which was liked by all. The only dance when everyone in the auditorium clapped to the rhythm was the bhangra performed by the students Of my class. 1 cheered the most. After the cultural programme wag the Fancy Dregs Show. Students clad in different costumes carne to the stage. It was really difficult to judge who ig better than whom. The last programme was a short play which was enacted emphasizing the need for education.

After thing the prize distribution was. The Principal read out the annual progres report of the school. Then he announced the names of the prize winners one by one and the Chief Guest distributed the prizes to the students. The parents of these students were happy to see their children getting the award. Even I was given a prize for standing first in my previous class. There were some special prizes for the students with Cent per Cent attendance, the best teachers who contributed most to the during the last academic year and the best students of the year. The winners received a great applause from one and all. Lastly, the Chief Guest in his speech praised and congratulated the prize winners and the school authorities for the results shown by the institution. The Principal then thanked the Chief Guest, the staff and disciplined students for making the Annual Day celebrations a success. The function came to an end with the National Anthem.

To the joy of all the students the next day was announced a holiday.
