The Khelo India scheme is a national program for the development of sports in India. It was started in the year 2018 in Delhi by the then Sports Minister Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. This program has been started to revive the sports culture in the country and transform India into a sports country.
In the last few years, India has shown tremendous growth in the field of sports, which shows that there is a lot of potential and future in sports in India. There is a need to show this ability on the world stage so that those players can showcase their real talent and potential to the world. Keeping in mind the importance of sports in India, the government started a program called Khelo India Program.
Under this program, an annual assistance of Rs 5 lakh is provided to the selected players for 8 years so that the players can develop their sports skills and prepare for various programs.

Khelo India Youth Games 2021: –
Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) is an important part of this sports program. It was earlier known as Khelo India School Games (KISG). This program is organized every year in the month of January. These games are organized to encourage the youth of India to participate in sports activities. Further, on the basis of performance in all disciplines, the committee concerned selects the most talented 1000 players and provides them financial assistance.
The third edition of Khelo India Youth Games -2020 will be held from 18 January to 30 January 2020 in Guwahati. The upcoming Games will be organized in partnership with School Games Federation of India (SGFI), Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Assam State.
Recently, the Sports Ministry has sanctioned an amount of Rs 7 crore 88 lakh as out-of-packet allowance for the training of 2625 Khelo India athletes 99 Khelo India Academies and other training centers across the country. After this approval, each athlete will be paid Rs 1,00,000 per month for the period between October to December 2019.
Khelo India Youth Game 2021
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Saturday that Haryana will host the fourth season of the ‘Khelo India Youth Games’ to be held in 2021. These games will be held in Panchkula after the Tokyo Olympics next year. The Union Sports Minister says that every year the Youth Game was held in January, but this time it has been postponed due to Corona virus. Khattar said that Haryana as a state has always promoted sports in a big way and supported its athletes. By the time we host the Games, the epidemic is over. We will be able to host the Games on the same scale with participation from all states and over 10,000 participants.
Organizing Khelo India Youth Game 2021

KIYG 2021

The players selected under this KIYG 2021 will be given Rs 5 lakh annually for the development of sportsmanship and they will have to prepare themselves for the national event. This financial assistance will be provided to the beneficiaries for 8 years. Eligibility Criteria for Khelo India Youth Games 2021: –
Talented athletes are selected on the basis of Khelo India Youth Games. The top performers are selected and given assistance in priority discipline. However the primary selection to play in Khelo India Youth Games is done on the basis of the submitted application.
- Earlier only students from schools (under 17 group) were eligible, but to provide opportunities to more athletes, the ministry decided to introduce a new category for college students.
- Candidates under the age of 17 can compete in the Under-17 category.
- Candidates under 21 years of age can compete in the Under-21 category.
- Applicant should be very interested in sports and should play a particular game.
- Athletes from all parts of the country can register.
