The Tamil Nadu government has launched the TN Free Cycle Scheme 2019-2020 for students. Under this Muft Cycle Scheme, the State Govt. Will provide free bicycles to the students of 11th grade of the current academic year. The TN Free Cycle Scheme will encourage students to come to school on time and help them get quality education. All boys and girls from government, government aided and partially aided schools are eligible. Students can avail the TN Free Bike Scheme scheme through their respective school headmaster.
CM Edappadi K Palaniswami marked the official launch of the Free Cycle Scheme 2020 by providing a token gesture to 9 students at the Secretariat. Under the TN Free Bike Scheme, the bicycles will be given to students from 10 districts Chinnai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpet, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Villupuram, Kallukurichi, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi. Tamil Nadu Free Cycle Scheme Eligibility Criteria
To avail the TN Free Cycle Scheme 2020, a candidate must fulfill the following eligibility criteria: –
- The candidate should be a permanent resident of the state of Tamil Nadu.
- He / she should be studying in class 11 in the state of Tamil Nadu in government or government aided or partially aided schools.
- Students residing in hostels located within the school premises are not eligible.
- Students of residential schools are also not eligible.

TN Muft Cycle Yojana 2020 Background
Former CM Late J to encourage girl students for education. Jayalalithaa launched the Free Cycle Scheme in the financial year 2001-02. This Mufti Cycle Scheme was introduced for students of SC / ST class to study in higher secondary. Subsequently, the TN Free Bike Scheme was expanded to students of all cateogries in government and government aided schools.

Salient features of the scheme
- Free Cycle to Students – Many poor students are forced to leave school because they live far away from the institution. The free bicycle will help them to cover the distance easily. It is also an act of encouragement of the State Government for the students.
- Government schools and ITI students – Candidates studying in government schools will get benefits under this project. Apart from the candidates, schools studying in industrial training institutes or ITIs in the state will be able to implement and get this free cycle from the Government of Tamil Nadu.
- For the current academic year – The state government will soon start the application process for the 2018 -2019 academic year. This year, CM inaugurated the scheme by handing out nine free cycles to eligible candidates.
- Total number of beneficiaries – According to a rough estimate, 11.78 lakh applicants can avail the benefit of this scheme. This figure has 5.06 lakh male students and 6.49 lakh female students from schools. About 18,506 ITI applicants will be able to get this free cycle.
Plan budget
The Tamil Nadu government will have to pay Rs 437.86 crore to provide free cycles to the estimated number of students. A small incentive from the state government will boost education among students.
The literacy rate in this state is higher than many other Indian states. The current state government wishes to increase this literacy index in the coming years. Thus, the implementation of this scheme will bring a smile on the face of poor and needy students.
Procedure to apply for Tamil Nadu Free Bicycle Scheme
To grab the benefits under this scheme student need to meet their respective headmasters of the school. There is no application procedure to get the benefits of this scheme.
