Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launches Angika campaign to bring PMAY (U) beneficiaries to Ujjwala and Ayushman Bharat Yojana
Central Government. Angika Abhiyan has been launched to bring the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U) to Ujjwala and Ayushman Bharat Yojana. This campaign has been launched to bring about social behavior change and it will focus on basic issues. These issues are water and energy conservation, waste management, health, plantation, sanitation and hygiene for the beneficiaries of full houses under PMAY (U).
The Angika campaign will be implemented through community collaboration and IEC activities. For this purpose, the campaign will converge with the plans and missions of other ministries dealing with these topics.
The convergence will specifically focus on Ujjwala for Ayushman Bharat for gas connections and health insurance to the beneficiaries of PMAY (U).
Angika campaign by the central government
Under the PM Awas Yojana Urban Housing Scheme, more than 90 lakh houses have already been approved, while the demand is 1.12 crore houses. About 53.40 lakh houses have been zoned (work has started) and an investment of more than 27.17 lakh has been completed with around 5.54 lakh crores and 24.75 lakh houses have been occupied. The Angika campaign will reach all the beneficiaries of the mission in a phased manner.
Angika Abhiyan has started in cities on 2 October 2019 on the eve of 150th Gandhi Jayanti and will end on 10 December 2019. The campaign will also include door to door activities, ward and city level programs. Central government. Not only will the beneficiaries be covered under the Ujjwala and Ayushman Bharat Yojana, they will also be offered solar powered devices. These devices include solar cookers etc. as part of their efforts to develop overall self-sufficient and sustainable urban clusters.
Government. PMAY such as LPG and health insurance will not only provide for the beneficiaries of urban services, but also provide training on water, energy conservation and waste management practices. The Angika Abhiyan aims to develop awareness about resource conservation and citizen-centric urban planning initiatives.
Angika is a 3-month campaign on social behavior change and will comprise 2,800 urban local bodies (ULBs). The campaign will cover senior citizens, single women, widows, transgenders and persons with disabilities. The objective of this campaign is to build the capacity of the beneficiaries for rainwater harvesting, plantation, waste management.
E-course on Vulnerability Atlas by MoHUA
The Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), in collaboration with the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) and the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), has started an e-course on the vulnability atlas. This is a unique course to create awareness about natural hazards, help identify areas with high risk w.r.t hazards such as earthquakes, cyclones, landslides, floods, etc.
This course will specify the level of risk of damage to the district’s existing housing stock. The E-Course on Vulnerability Atlas is going to be a tool for effective and efficient disaster mitigation. This will be done for effective management in the fields of architecture, civil engineering, urban and regional planning, housing and infrastructure planning, construction engineering and management and building and materials research.

During the inauguration of Construction Technology India (CTI-2019), PMAY (U) is going to enable “Ease of Living” for the beneficiaries. This will emphasize the need to include hazardous safety provisions in all construction works. It is going to be a part of the 100-day agenda of the central government.
