Therefore, I, as Babasaheb, encourage and motivate you to take you on the path of righteousness and equality. I am writing some slogans on Bhimrao Ambedkar, Ambedkar Jayanti and Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar to BR Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 in Mhow (now Dr. Ambedkar Nagar), Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Ambedkar was an economist and a social reformer who devoted his life to the upliftment of the Indian untouchable (Dalit) community. Hailing from a backward class himself, he had faced discrimination from a very young age and felt its pain.
He was the first untouchable to enter the prestigious Elphinstone College, Mumbai. The practice of untouchability was so ingrained during those times that his colleagues at the Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai refused to share the same water jug with him when he was working as a professor there. Such incidents made him more determined to fight the class discrimination that was prevalent in Hinduism.
He achieved a major milestone in his fight against untouchability when he successfully converted to Buddhism on 14 October 1956 at Devbhoomi in Nagpur Maharashtra along with half a million other Dalits.
He is credited with bringing many social and political reforms by organizing untouchables all over India. He fought for discrimination as well as the political and social rights of the untouchable community. He was also the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee, when India attained independence and is known as the ‘Father of the Constitution of India’.
The Government of India and its people celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 every year to celebrate B.B. Ambedkar towards the abolition of untouchability and the framing of the Constitution; Give us a more united and stronger India. Dr. Ambedkar and his efforts are remembered in the offices and schools of India and people / students vow to abolish untouchability. Dr. Ambedkar was posthumously awarded India’s highest civilian honor – Bharat Ratna in 1990.
The father of the Indian Constitution breathed his last at his home in Delhi on 6 December 1956. Since he converted to Buddhism, his death is celebrated every year on 6 December as Mahaparinirvana (Nirvana after death according to Buddhist philosophy). The day the tribute is paid to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, across the country, especially at Chaityabhoomi (Dadar) in Shivaji Park Mumbai, which is his cremation ground. Millions of people visit the Chaityabhoomi every year in early December to pay homage to Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.
