WhatsApp said on 06 November 2020 that it has started its payment services in India after getting permission from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). According to NPCI, WhatsApp can increase its UPI user base in a phased manner.

But for this, first you have to update your WhatsApp account. To avail this feature, it is necessary to have a UPI based debit card with users.

Partnership with several banks

WhatsApp has partnered with ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, SBI and JIo Payments Bank for payment service. However, if you do not have an account with these banks, you will still be able to use WhatsApp payments. Like Google Pay and Phone Pay, WhatsApp Pay will also require a UPI PIN, so that you can make a secure payment.
