Indian Railways (IRCTC) starts the process of canceling reservations or refunding OTP based train e-tickets for fully awaited tickets.
Indian Railways has started implementing a new one-time password (OTP) based refund system to make train ticket refund more accessible to the common man. According to the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), this train e-ticket reservation cancellation refund policy will be more transparent and customer friendly. All train ticket reservations that have been canceled or will be returned will be canceled altogether.
The new Indian Railway train e-ticket reservation cancellation refund mechanism will be simplified. Passengers will now receive an OTP in the form of an SMS on their registered mobile number. This OTP should be provided to complete the IRCTC train e-ticket reservation cancellation refund process.
This new system will only apply to e-tickets that are booked only by IRCTC authorized agents.

Through the process of canceling the new Indian Railways e-ticket reservation, the train passengers will benefit immensely. If the ticket is booked through an authorized IRCTC agent and is canceled by the customer or a fully awaited ticket, an OTP SMS will be sent to the customer / passenger mobile number. This mobile number is the same as that provided to the passenger by the agent at the time of booking. Passengers must share this OTP with the agent who booked their ticket to receive the refund amount.
According to IRCTC, the OTP-based refund process will bring greater transparency in the railway reservation cancellation refund system. It is a user-friendly process where passengers can know the exact refund amount received by the agent on their behalf against a canceled ticket or a fully dropped ticket on the waiting list.
Need to cancel Indian railway train ticket reservation
The main objective of the new railway reservation cancellation plan is to further streamline the refund process of cancellation. This will ensure that the amount canceled by the agents is returned to the customer on time. To avail the new railway ticket cancellation refund scheme, the customer has to provide the correct mobile number to the IRCTC authorized agent at the time of booking the reserved railway e-ticket.
The customer / passenger should ensure that the agent records his mobile number correctly at the time of booking the reserved railway e-ticket. Only IRCTC authorized agents are allowed to book reserved rail e-tickets to the customer. OTP based refunds for canceled tickets or fully awaited dropped tickets will be processed only if the tickets are booked through IRCTC authorized agents.
