Central Government Launched – Income-Tax Faceless e-assessment Scheme: In order to reduce the burden of taxpayers in our country and encourage more people to pay tax, the government has introduced income-tax faceless e-assessment scheme. In this article all the benefits, facilities declared by the Finance Minister have been mentioned. Apart from this, we will tell you about the income tax-free e-assessment scheme for the year 2019-2020.

The Finance Ministry has informed that the Income Tax-less e-assessment scheme for the year 2019 and 2020 has been started to conduct faceless check of Income Tax Return (ITR). The scheme also includes creation of e-assessment centers at national and regional levels and automatic allocation of cases between these centers. As declared by the Finance Minister, the income tax payers do not have to appear in the Income Tax Office to pay tax, instead they can do it sitting at home.

Features of e-assessment scheme without income tax: –

  • Under this scheme, a person will be issued a notice of inquiry under section 143 (2) in case of loss or loss of his income.
  • The person has to reply within 15 days from the date of receipt of the notice.
  • A notice issued on the registered email address of the taxpayer or on the mobile app of the Income Tax Department will be sent electronically to the taxpayer’s account on the e-filing website.
  • A person will only be required to respond to a notice or order received through a registered account.
  • The response will be successfully submitted after an individual receives an acknowledgment from the National E-Assessment Center.
  • Individual taxpayers will not be required to appear before the Income Tax Authority either personally or through an authorized representative in relation to the proceedings related to the scheme.
  • All communication between the department and the taxpayer will be done electronically.
  • The e-assessment plan will be fully automated.

Benefits of e-assessment scheme without income tax: –

  • The first and most important benefit of the scheme is that the income tax payers will not be obliged to submit it to the Income Tax Office.
  • All notices and receipts will be sent in electronic form to the payer.
  • Through this scheme, the taxpayer will get ease.
  • The scheme will encourage more and more people to pay tax.
  • In the Union Budget for the year 2019 and 2020, a separate budget has been allocated for this scheme.
  • The process of paying tax will be fully automated.

How does the process work?

The plan does not include any human interface between the taxpayer and the department.

Its objective is to facilitate unidirectional assessment of income tax returns through purely electronic communication, under which taxpayers will receive notice with real-time alerts on their registered e-mail as well as web portal www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in . SMSing their registered mobile number, specifying the issues for which their cases have been selected for investigation.

The notice can be easily prepared by the taxpayers at their residence or office and can be uploaded by email to the National e-Assessment Center on the designated web portal.

This new initiative of faceless assessment is expected to increase ease of compliance for taxpayers as the cost and concerns of taxpayers are likely to be much lower.

The plan was announced in the budget and notified last month.

58,322 cases for investigation under faceless e-assessment

The department said that it has selected 58,322 cases for investigation under the new scheme and e-notices have been given before September 30, 2019 for the assessment year 2018-19 cases.

Taxpayers have been advised to check their registered e-filing accounts / email IDs and request to submit replies within 15 days. The department hopes that cases will be dealt with speedily with ease of compliance with taxpayers.
